Subject: Who is using the MiscKit?
Reply-To: don@darth.byu.edu
Hi there.
I've been asked to write an article on the MiscKit for the up
and coming NEXTSTEP newsletter "NEXT IN LINE." The focus
will be about what makes the MiscKit unique: the cooperation
from many net personalities and the incredible amount of
functionality and rapid growth that the kit has seen over the
past several months.
One thing I would like to include is some quotes from people
who are using the MiscKit in their work. Since pretty much
everyone on this list has used the MiscKit to some degree,
that would make you all eligible. I'm particularly
interested in answers to some of these questions:
(1) How much of the kit do you use? Which parts are most
useful to you? What do you feel is missing?
(2) In what projects have you used the kit? Commercial,
shareware, freeware, other...?
(3) How much time was saved by using the MiscKit?
(obviously an estimate here) Did any surprising religious
experiences come from using the MiscKit? :-)
(4) Why did you choose the MiscKit over other options? In
what situations do you think other options are better than
the MiscKit?
(5) Are you also a contributor (or do you plan to be)?
(6) Anything else you think is pertinent.
I am particularly interested to hear experiences from those
who are using the MiscKit in a commercial product; I know
that there are a handful of those out there. Please don't
be shy! Documented use in commercial products will help
lend credibility to the MiscKit. (I realize that due to
the nature of the kit there aren't a lot of these; most big
third party apps would be well advised to use a commercial
kit, like the DolphinKit, where proper software support can
be provided...but there are some with budgets that only can
pay for a freebie like the MiscKit, too...)
You will also note that some of the above questions will help
me provide better future direction for the kit, in an effort
to increase it's utility. So if you have the time, a
response would be most welcome! I won't have much space
for the article, but your responses will certainly help me make
it a better article.
Any information you wish to share should be sent directly to
me--don@darth.byu.edu or Don_Yacktman@byu.edu--and NOT
to the MiscKit list. I will keep all information confidential.
Only I will see it. If I wish to quote anything you say, I
will request your permission first.
Thanks in advance for your help!
